2011

A little late for these updates I know. I couldn't find the time to compile everything (just lazy actually). 2011 has been an amazing year filled with events and projects I've never imagine I would do :-) ...

01 | Singapore Funeral Services

Attempted a rebranding of a funeral palour for my Final Year Project in school.

"Rest in Style"

Death is often seen as a taboo in Singapore. This campaign hopes to dismantle these taboos surrounding Death & Dying by encouraging dialogues about this sensitive subject. It portrays death in a positive and empowering light that urge people to live their lives to the fullest.

Singapore Funeral Services (SFS) provides luxurious funerals with exquisite coffins that are customized for each individual. As people revel in their life achievements and thought about how they would want to be remembered, SFS opens up a world of possibilities to help achieve their ideal funerals. These funerals are seen as an embodiment of one’s character and a celebration of life’s journey.

SFS is an icon recognized as the pinnacle of funeral planning excellence in Singapore. The brand seeks to evoke a sense of fantasy, opulence and exclusivity so as to parallel a person’s sense of self worth and dignity. Nothing compares.

People who come to SFS are open-minded individuals aged 30s to 40s who place great value on individuality, style and long lasting memories.

The words on the namecards were layout to look like words on the tombstone.

Most stylish pallbearers ever.

Grieve pack- relieving the memories and life of the deceased and teaching you how to grieve ... well properly...

Art Direction

“Rest in Style” is inspired by the ideals of haute couture fashion where there is an extreme attention to details and a fair amount of style and glamour. The campaign will consist of a fusion between art, design and fashion. Vibrant colours are used against a large black or white background. It will be a mixture of photographs and illustrations with a cut-and-paste look.

“What’s your life like?” will be the tagline used in this campaign to provoke people to think about their lives.

Overview of Campaign Event

“Legacies” will be a collaboration between famous inspirational figures (David Gan, Jane Lee, Andre Chiang, etc) and famous designers (Ashley Isham, Daniel Boey, Phunkstudio, etc). The designers will come up with specially designed funeral settings, coffins and outfits for the renowned figures. These coffins will be made out of glass and form part of an art installation for the fashion event / exhibition later on.

02 | Uyii Bags

Met up with Ms Chan early this year and got to know of the company that her husband Benny had set up. Their handmade bags are really interesting and I worked briefly for them in October. Went on to develop their branding and website...

I feel that there was potential in exploring the way users can shop virtually (through the input of QR codes) hence I attempted to come up with supporting illustrations and elements that were inspired by the QR code. My first time trying pixel art...

The elements from the illustration was inspired by their tagline "Different, no difference", and depicted icons that were "Uniquely Singapore" like the merlion, HDB flats and even a coffee shop.

Also went on to illustrate their staff in pixels.

Small Icons for their range of bags.

Check out more of them here at www.uyii.com.sg .

03 | Imagination Will Take You Everywhere

Did some self promotional items for my gradshow this year.

04 | Design Festa Gallery Exhibition

Was researching for my trip to Tokyo and found this really nice exhibition space located in Harajuku. Hence, I packed along a few of my artworks and did a mini showcase over there for a week.

Translated some of the titles of the artworks with the help of my friend Chloe who is residing in Japan.

The staff there were really friendly and they even emailed to say that they have blogged about my works :-)

At the end of the exhibition, I was really surprised (and very happy) that someone bought a few of the artworks :-) (considering that all of the descriptions were in English)...

05| Merganser The New Face of Greener Communication

The brief was to come up with a new brand of paper and the following deliverables: 1. Logo, 2. Poster, 3. Direct Mailer, 4. Out-of-the-box Item

// The Story

Inspired by the beautiful and critically endangered Brazilian Merganser waterfowls. Merganser is the first to offer a stunning range of high-end recycled papers. Made from superior premium post-consumer pulp and mineral pigments, the papers print beautifully.

It is widely available in different gram-mage to fulfill every printing desire. Merganser hopes to apply recycled materials in a totally new way, insisting on superlative quality.

Discover the range for yourself and see the new prestigious face of greener communication.

Proposed wall calendar as the "out-of-the-box deliverable", where users can rearrange the order of the papers in accordance to the month. Different print effects are used on the different paper stock of the calendar. (print effects not seen as this is only a mockup)

06| Match Up! Game Station

A series of illustrations that was commissioned by Singapore Sports Council for their upcoming campaign that inculcates sporting values in children. Match Up! is a game station that will be stationed in primary and secondary schools for kids and teenagers to participate in.

Here are 3 out of 10 illustrations that were done:

Will be posting more pictures of the stations once they are made and assembled!

07| Befrienders

Did volunteering work last year for some old folks and they inspired my next series of illustrations titled Befrienders.

A preview...

Am still working on experimenting with the different techniques. Hoping I can work on this a little more when there's more time in Feb/Mar...

It's gonna be an exciting year ahead!! :-)

Meet Peep & Poop

Meet Peep and Poop

Did a collaboration with Vivien when I was at Uyii. Glad to have met such a talented and joyful girl :) Vivien sewed the dolls while I did the ice-cream jellyfish tree in the background. Initially we wanted to make clothes for them, but found that it would be too messy as the dolls had patchwork heads.

The dolls were made as part of an exhibition titled "Fruity Show" happening in Pigeonhole Cafe over at Duxton Hill from 12 Oct.
